Clan Cuming Advice Network

Skill Sharing, Mentoring, & Reverse Mentoring

Clan Cuming recognises the importance of mentoring, skill sharing, and other similar practices of passing knowledge from generation to generation.

At its most fundamental level, it allows the older generation to pass on what they have learnt through their lives to those who are younger.  This is done (in-part) so that the younger generation may avoid some of the pitfalls and obstacles that may have caught the older generation.  It creates a fast-track, (and gives those who have been given the benefit) a step-up over what they would have had without it, and who they would have been without it.

Compound this over multiple generations, and the whole clan is significantly stepped-up from where it would have been without this practice.

Secondarily to this, it is a practice that strengthens bonds and networks between the branches of the clan and between the family units of the clan.

We invite all members of our clan to mentor, to be mentee, and to share skills with one another

We invite younger members of the clan to share issues and perspectives of their generation to their elders, and to keep their elders abreast of changes they may not yet be aware of - a reverse mentoring.

We invite members of the clan to share, not only at a professional level, but on topics of shared interest in general, and overarchingly on how to improve:

  • From tips and tricks in woodworking, knitting, farming, running a household, law, or whatever your area of knowledge (or lack of)
  • To what to expect at different stages of life
  • To academic and professional guidance

We ask members interested in supporting one another's development to fill out some details of themselves, their career, life skills, and interests.  This is to help mentors, mentees, advisors and advisees to find one another.
